A relatively recent addition is the range of DisplayPort cables and adaptors, including Mini DisplayPort, that are gaining popularity as a new generation digital video/audio interface.
Essentially this range is designed to replace, via single connector footprint, the DVI (digital) and VGA (analogue) ports of a device. As a result we have a wide range of straight through cables as well as adaptors covering conversion between the DisplayPort and currently more traditional HDMI, DVI and VGA connectivity.
The cables are designed to transmit optional video and audio signals, that is they can transmit either/or or both – making their use much more flexible and in touch with modern day video AV requirements.
